Rapid Communication Cerebrospinal Fluid Amyloid b42/Phosphorylated Tau Ratio Discriminates Between Alzheimer’s Disease and Vascular Dementia

چکیده
Background. The differentiation of Alzheimer’s disease (AD) from vascular dementia (VaD) is hampered by clinical diagnostic criteria with disappointing sensitivity and specificity. The objective of this study was to investigate whether cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) levels of total tau protein (t-tau), amyloid b42 protein (Ab42), and tau phosphorylated at threonine 181 (p-tau181) are useful biomarkers to distinguish AD patients from VaD patients.

Reduced cerebrospinal fluid amyloid-b42 and increased retention of florbetapir positron emission tomography are biomarkers reflecting cortical amyloid load in Alzheimer’s disease. However, these measurements do not always agree and may represent partly different aspects of the underlying Alzheimer’s disease pathology. The goal of this study was therefore to test if cerebrospinal fluid and posit...

Progressive cognitive decline in combination with a cerebrospinal fluid biomarker pattern of low levels of amyloid-β1-42 and high levels of total tau and phosphorylated tau is typical of Alzheimer's disease. However, several neurodegenerative disorders may overlap with Alzheimer's disease both in regards to clinical symptoms and neuropathology. In a uniquely large cohort of dementia patients, w...
متن کاملThe cerebrospinal fluid amyloid P42/40 ratio in the differentiation of Alzheimer’s disease from non-Alzheimer’s dementia
Background: Amyloid p40 (Ap40) is the most abundant Ap peptide in the brain. The cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) level of Ap40 might therefore be considered to most closely reflect the total Ap load in the brain. Both in Alzheimer’s disease (AD) and in normal aging the Ap load in the brain has a large inter individual variability. Relating Ap42 to Ap40 levels might consequently provide a more valid ...
